Axon’ Cable innovates for space

Fast integration, fast connection, weight and space saving! These are challenges the expert in cables and interconnect solutions Axon’ Cable is able to rise for space applications. Space Tech Expo show which will take place from 21 to 22 May in Pasadena, California represents an excellent opportunity for the company to present innovative connectors developed for the space market.

Axon’ Cable launches a dismountable miniature connector

Axon’ Cable has been manufacturing micro-D and nano-D connectors for many years.  This expertise enables the company today to offer a connector which saves space compared with D-Sub connectors.  In order to meet customers’ requirements, Axon’ offers a dismountable version: lines (power contacts and wire) are interchangeable.  Users can thus build the connectors themselves which gives more flexibility to the design.  Another advantage: in the case of a defective line or contact, the user just needs to change the concerned line but not the whole connector.  This generates real time savings as no tooling is required for this operation.

Connect in a click

Axon’ Cable has enlarged their range of highly reliable Micro-D connectors by developing D-Click fast latching connectors. One single click and the plug is connected and locked to the socket.  Then simply squeeze the clips and pull to unplug. No tooling and no torque are required.  Versatys® power connectors can also be equipped with the D-click system which allows for substantial time saving during integration

MicroMach®, high data rate connector: faster, lighter, smaller

Axon’ Cable has been selected by ESA to develop a new generation of SpaceWire connector. Compatible with ESCC qualified SpaceWire cable, the new MicroMach® connector offers significantly better performance than the default 9 way Micro-D: 100 ohms matched impedance pairs, reduced crosstalk and robust EMC protection. Several variants will be offered: male and female inline, SMT PCB, Wired PCB and flex PCB panel mount.

Space heritage

Axon’ Cable has been involved in many space projects, including the International Space Station, many telecoms, scientific and earth observation satellites and rocket launchers including Vega and Ariane 5.  The company enjoys space flight heritage dating back to the 1990s and is currently completing all the cabling for the ExoMars Rover vehicle.  Axon’ has also been selected by Airbus OneWeb Satellites as the main interconnect partner for the OneWeb satellite mega constellation.

Axon Cable will be exhibiting at Space Tech Expo 2019 at booth 4011.
