Exhibitor Spotlight: Michael Schlingmann at ARADEX

headshotMichael Schlingmann holds a degree in physics and co-founded ARADEX GmbH in 1989. His first job was to develop kernel software for an MS-DOS real-time system for the world’s fastest CNC controller on an industrial PC. Michael Schlingmann has been CFO of ARADEX AG since 2000 with a change to CEO in 2018.

Please tell us about your current role. What are your key focus areas and responsibilities?

My current role involves strategic management, managing current and future market positioning based on analysis of current market developments. Furthermore, I am responsible for the financial management and the management of strategic partnerships.


What inspired you to join/start this company?

Together with the other three founders, I had the ambition to transfer the theoretical knowledge learned during my studies as quickly and effectively as possible into practice.

Thanks to an unrestrained zest for action and an almost revolutionary idea, the ideology of focusing on self-employment in the field of electrical control systems quickly developed.


What do you think sets your company apart from your competitors?

We attach great importance to a precisely adapted design of the entire system. So we do not just sell “only” high-quality technologies. In order to design a drive optimised for the individual requirements, numerous things have to be considered, such as interactions between the individual components. We look at it closely, create very precise analyses and can get so much more efficiency out of one drive with a very detailed view of the overall system.

VECTOPOWER is currently the most efficient drive system available on the market.


What are the key opportunities and challenges your company faces at present?

Because of increasing environmental awareness and the associated growing reservations about fossil fuel drives, more and more companies are enforced to save energy with their mobile machines. The market for electric drives rested a long time on a very low level and seems to now be strongly increasing.

A lot of competitors now want to enter the market, but only a few will succeed. We are sure we will be one of them.


Are there any new technology developments that you are working on at the moment? Can you tell us about them?

We are steadily optimising our product portfolio to increase the efficiency of the drivetrain, and also relating to future standards we have to follow. We also expand our portfolio so that we can offer all power electronics for a mobile electric machine to our customers.

Currently, there is a huge demand in DCDC converters for high power, and we are also investigating high voltages.


What would you say most excites you about your role?

Our industry is one of the key sectors helping to save energy so that our world is also liveable for our children. We are part of this critical process.


How do you think the industry will develop within the next five years? Can you tell us about the key trends emerging?

We think that the transformation from diesel engines to electric engines will be much faster than most of the people think today. This will cause a lot of trouble for the “old” industry and generate opportunities to enter new markets we still cannot see today.

Nobody can tell us which is the energy source for future working machines. There are a lot of changes and developments but it seems that the energy and emission problems can be solved. And we know that the drivetrain will be electric.


What do you hope to achieve at the show this year, and what connections do you hope to make?

Our aim is to further establish the product families VECTOPOWER and VECTOMOTOR as extremely compatible, efficient and individually adaptable drive components. We have already achieved considerable success in recent years, but we would like to see even stronger market penetration with this drive package. We use the show to present the advantages of this drive package and wish to be in contact with the relevant target group.
