Tell us about your role and responsibilities – what do you see as your core focus for the immediate and long-term future?
As head of business development, my role involves finding the long-term partners and short-term buyers suitable for Northvolt's 32GWh output.
What are the biggest challenges you face as a business and that you see across the sector, and what are the opportunities?
As with most companies, execution is key; managing as best we can to have enough flexibility to deal with future form factors and technology innovations.
Where do you see the biggest growth opportunities in battery markets? (feel free to answer either geographically, technologically or market-led)
All markets will grow: automotive is practically guaranteed, while grid depends a lot on legislation – and not if, but when. Industrial smart moves now will determine who will become the leaders of tomorrow.
Can you pinpoint what you see as the biggest challenge to cell manufacturing in Europe?
A shortage of people with cell manufacturing experience presents a significant challenge. We need to also look outside the business to other industries that share similarities.
What do you see as the biggest disrupter to the battery and/ or automotive industry in the next decade?
Battery price decline and volume increase will be the biggest disrupter.
What are you most looking forward to at The Electric & Hybrid Vehicle Technology Expo 2018?
Meeting up with all the great people who are busy changing the world.
Who would be your best all-time five dinner party guests and why?
My four children and one of: my wife, Barack Obama, Warren Buffett, Elon Musk or Xi Jinping.
Martin Anderlind will be speaking on Tuesday 15 May in the keynote session 'The Leaders Debate: Can European Cell Manufacturing Catch Up' on Tuesday 15 May at The Electric & Hybrid Vehcile Technology Expo 2018.
